Ten “Trees of Hope” to commemorate Indiana’s Bicentennial will be dedicated in parks throughout Hamilton County beginning April 23. Westfield Eagle Scout Candidate Nick Svendsen and Hamilton County Tourism partnered with 10 cities and parks departments and Sustainable Indiana 2016 for the installations.
The trees serve as a living commitment to environmental sustainability for future generations of Hoosiers and pay tribute to Indiana’s establishment of the state parks system 100 years ago as part of the centennial celebration. The dedication ceremonies are free and open to the public.
“We are thrilled that a young member of our community took an interest in spearheading the Tree of Hope project,” said Brenda Myers, president and CEO of Hamilton County Tourism. “Nick’s involvement represents a new generation of Hamilton County leaders.”
“Over the past several years, the Cicero Parks Department has worked to help the local Boy Scouts with some great Eagle Scout and public service projects here in Cicero. We are very please to be a part of working with Nick on the Tree of Hope project in Community Park” stated Charlie Cambre, Cicero Parks Department Superintendent. Indiana Senator, Jim Buck and Representative, Tony Cook will be in attendance for the April 30th event. The Cicero Friends of the Park will be serving refreshments for those who plan to attend.
Each dedication ceremony will feature a presentation of colors, Pledge of Allegiance, dedication of the tree and local speaker. Light refreshments will be served.
