The Town of Cicero Receives State Funding for Road Improvement Projects
Cicero, IN – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced earlier this week that the Town of Cicero is one of the 2016 grant recipients of the Community Crossing Matching Grant. An official announcement of the Town’s road projects and check presentation by INDOT to the Town of Cicero will be on Tuesday, August 30th at 9:30am at the Cicero Town Hall.
The Town of Cicero will receive $365,397.00 from the INDOT grant program. The Town of Cicero submitted four road improvement projects that totaled $730,794.00 with half coming from INDOT and the other half coming from the Town’s allotment of the Local Option Income Tax that was to be used for roads and streets. Project priority was determined based on a road assessment completed earlier this summer by the Town. Those projects with the higher priority were selected to include in the grant application.
Town Board President, Brett Foster stated, “The Town of Cicero is excited and grateful to have received the INDOT Community Crossing matching grant. The funds from the grant will provide our community an opportunity to complete projects that would have taken nearly five years to be able to have enough funds to complete. We have a great Town staff who worked together in all aspects of completing this grant and we look forward to starting on these projects. A special thanks to our Community Development Specialist Shae Kmicikewycz and our Street and Utilities Director Pat Comer for their hard work on this”.
Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb made the announcement that 102 Central Indiana cities, towns, and counties are receiving a combined $47 million to improve local roads and bridges through the State’s Community Crossing matching grant fund. The grant program was created by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Mike Pence in March of 2016. Projects that are eligible for funding through the grant include road resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation, road reconstruction, resurfacing, and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance in connection with road projects. Material costs for chip sealing and crack filling operations are also eligible.
