It was announced on Monday that Paul Munoz, Plan Director for the Cicero/Jackson Township Plan Commission, was awarded the 2013 Ruffin Scholarship from Oklahoma University’s Economic Development Institute.  According to the University website, the scholarship is a means of recognizing the impact that Jerry Ruffin (OU/EDI Director from 1972 until his retirement in 1986) has made on the economic development professionals in the United States, the  University of Oklahoma has established the Gerald E. Ruffin Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to qualified candidates for their first year of attendance into the Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute.  The criteria include graduation from an accredited Economic Development Course and having shown leadership in the community and in the field of community and economic development.  Paul has recently attended the Indiana Economic Development Course from Ball State University in 2012.

“This is a unique opportunity for the Town of Cicero.  Having Paul attend this training will help the Town better understand what direction is best for the community and how to attract smart, responsible growth.” stated Dennis Schrumpf, Town Council Member.  The scholarship pays for the recipients entry into the upcoming session this November in Indianapolis.  Paul is currently planning to attend to study long range and strategic planning.
