The Cicero American Legion and the local VFW are partnering with the Town of Cicero to build a 36 foot by 4 foot brick wall honoring the five branches of the armed forces and all local veterans for their military service.  This wall will stand at the entrance to Red Bridge Park and will complement the Veterans’ Memorial Walkway that crosses Morse Reservoir.  It will stand as a legacy to both our community and to all who have served for generations to come.  The cost of the project is $18,000.00, so we need your help.  Tax deductible donations can be made to:  Cicero American Legion Post 341 and earmarked:  “Memorial Wall”.  Please help us show support and appreciation to all who currently serve and who have served from our community.  Thank you for your consideration and any contribution you may be able to make.

For more information about the Wall, please contact the Cicero American Legion, Jody Brown – 317-366-7588 or by email: jodybrown@reagan.com.

Let’s build a Wall – by Jody Brown

Let’s build a wall in Cicero. Not a wall to keep people out, nor to keep people in, but a wall to remember. Let’s erect a monument made of brick that celebrates the five branches of the United States military. Let’s construct something that will remind us of all of those who have served in our armed forces. Let’s do this as a community to honor our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters – aunts and uncles, and grandparents who served, especially those who served during times of crises. Let’s leave a legacy for future generations to celebrate and a legacy to remind them how much we cared and appreciated our military servicemen and women.
It’s so easy to forget or to take for granted the sacrifices of so many of our ancestors or to ignore the sacrifices being made today by the soldiers and sailors of our generation who currently serve. I’m not sure any of us can truly imagine what our servicemen and women endured during wartime fighting, and especially for those who were killed to defend our freedoms as Americans. We owe them so much and it has to begin by paying a reasonable tribute to them.
The total cost of this project will be $18,000. To date we have raised approximately $3000 with pledges of another $9,000. But as you can see we need help. So, on April 1st at 6:00 PM at the Red Bridge Community Building, the Cicero American Legion along with Big Dog’s BBQ will be sponsoring a BBQ dinner and auction to raise the much-needed funds to construct our Veterans’ Memorial Wall at the entrance of Red Bridge Park. The cost of the event is $10.00 per person – pay at the door. Auction items have been donated by our local merchants and the food is graciously being provided by Big Dog’s. Music will be provided by “A Better Day” to help us celebrate our nation, our military, our community and most importantly, our veterans. Auctioneer Aaron Williamson will volunteer his time to help make this event a success.
Let’s come together and support a worthy cause that will do us all proud and will add to the beauty and quality of our great town of Cicero. You can RSVP by calling: 317-366-7588 or by email: jodybrown@reagan.com.
