Town of Cicero Announces Pool Closure for 2021 Season
After months of research and investigation into the repairs needed for the town pool, the Town Council and Parks Department have made the tough decision to keep the pool closed for the 2021 season. The Town Council members and Parks Staff worked with local companies to determine the costs associated with repairing the pool. The lowest estimates were over $85,000.00 and there was no guarantee that the identified repairs would hold through more than one season. The Council and Parks Department also received a more detailed comprehensive repair plan for the pool and those estimated costs would well exceed $130,000.00 and again there was no guarantee that the repairs would extend the life of the pool beyond a few seasons.
The pool has served the Cicero community since 1985 and in that time, it has undergone annual maintenance to extend the life of it. Unfortunately, the current repairs exceed basic maintenance costs. The Parks Department and Council have agreed to continue to research the best options moving forward with the town pool. In the coming weeks and months, the Council and Parks Department will seek input from the community in finding the best solution to the issue. A survey is being developed and input from the community will be valuable moving forward.
