                          When a Building Permit is needed
The only areas of home improvements/construction that do not require a building permit consist of: Replacement of windows and doors; Interior decorating such as painting, wallpapering or floor covering; exterior painting or replacing shingles on a roof.

All others areas of structural improvement, repair, or addition requires that a building permit be obtained.

For instructions on obtaining a building permit, please click on the BUILDING PERMITS link along the right side of this page.  There will also be a map to help you determine which Planning Office you must contact to obtain your permit.

For building permits requiring Special Use such as schools, churches, etc., applicants should schedule a appointment for a meeting. Call: 317-776-8490; Office hours are 8am to 4:30pm.

Should you like to speak to an inspector the best time to call would be between 8am to 9am and again between 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Call: 317-776-8490.

Note: Make sure you check with the Cicero Utility Department before you dig or begin.
